The adrenergic beta3 receptor (beta3-adrenoceptor) is a member of the adrenergic receptor group of G-protein-coupled receptors that also includes alpha1A, alpha1B, alpha1D, alpha2A, alpha2B, alpha2C, beta1 and beta2. They are located primarily in the small intestine, adipose tissue and vascular endothelium where they are involved in lipolysis, glucose uptake, cardio-inhibition and relaxation of colon, esophagus and bladder. The human beta3 receptor gene has been localized to chromosome 8 (8p12-8p11.1).
